A Scottish Canticle
The Song of Songs or Song of Solomon or Canticle of Canticles is one of the shortest books in the Bible. Ellen Wycherley's music portrays this book in an unfolding drama of twelve songs sung by Brian Hilsley (as bridegroom) and Ellen Wycherley (as bride). The journey is linked by a narrator, Noel O'Donoghue. Lyrics are by Jill Munro, author of Spikenard and Saffron (A Study in the poetic language of the Song of Songs), and Noel O'Donoghue. For this most famous and most ancient of love poems, the clarsach, played by Ellen Wycherley, provides added colour, atmosphere, and drama. Brian Hilsley has a special interest in sacred music and song, and has worked with Ellen learning her music, singing for her last two tapes, and also participating in her festival concerts.
